Aloe Soap Balls

Ingredients

bullet4 ounces grated Castile Soap
bullet2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
bullet1 1/2 tablespoons rosewater
bullet30 drops evening primrose oil
bullet6 drops tangerine essential oil
bullet4 drops juniper essential oil
Instructions
Mix grated soap with evening primrose oil, aloe and rosewater. Cover and let sit overnight. Put in a food processor and mix well while adding essential oils. Wet your hands and form the mixture into balls. Place on wax paper to dry.

These soaps will look like traditional New England soap balls. The scent is refreshing and the aloe has a soothing effect on the skin. This is a good face soap. Never use a commercial soap on your face!

Although aloe can be purchased, it makes good sense to grow your own. Not only can you use then have fresh aloe for your recipes, the plant is an excellent air purifier. Keep one in every bedroom. The plant can process chemicals given off by paint, carpet and other construction materials. Also, transpiration of carbon dioxide and oxygen is a great benefit.

Indian Spice

Ingredients

bullet8 ounces (225gm) grated soap
bullet6 3/4 ounces (200ml) orange flower water
bullet2 tablespoons (25ml) jojoba oil
bullet1 tablespoon (10ml) liquid glycerin
bullet1 tablespoon (5ml) cocoa butter
bullet10 drops vanilla oil
bullet10 drops lemon essential oil
bullet10 drops cinnamon essential oil
bullet15 drops ginger essential oil
Instructions
Put the soap, flower water, jojoba and glycerin in a double boiler. Heat gently until soap starts to melt. Add cocoa butter and stir all until melted.
Remove from heat and add essential oils.
Whip with an electric beater until thickened.
Smooth into a mold and smooth with a spoon dipped in hot water.
Set for one hour and remove from mold. Dry for two weeks.

Good soap for dry skin.

 

Luffa Soap

Ingredients

bullet2 cups grated soap
bullet1/2 cup water
bullet1 tablespoon palm oil
bullet1 tablespoon finely shredded luffa
bullet20 drops lavender oil
bullet5 drops violet food coloring
Instructions
Melt soap with water. When smooth, add remainder of ingredients. Pour into molds. Cure soap for three weeks.

This soap acts as a gentle exfoliant.

Peppermint Soap

Ingredients

bullet2 cups grated basic soap
bullet1/2 cup water
bullet1/4 cup coconut oil
bullet1 teaspoon dried peppermint leaves (or amount in one teabag)
bullet10 peppermint oil
bullet10 drops tea tree oil
Instructions
Melt soap and coconut oil with water. Mix in remaining ingredients. Pour into molds.

This is a nice morning shower soap. Also, try using it when you have a cold. If you want to add a little color try one of green for a light mint shade.

Lemon Nutmeg Bars

Ingredients

bulletJuice of one lemon
bullet1 ounce glycerin
bulletGrated rind of one lemon
bullet1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
bullet5 drops lemon essential oil
Instructions
Weigh the lemon juice and add water to make 9 ounces. Melt the liquid and grated 12 ounces of basic soap. Once smooth, add glycerin, rind, nutmeg and fragrance. Stir in well each time. Pour into molds.

This soap is good for fair skin. It's fun to make too.

Milk and Honey Soap

Ingredients

bullet1/4 cup instant powdered milk
bullet1/4 cup honey
Instructions
Melt together the 12 ounces of basic soap and 9 ounces of water. Add the instant milk, then the honey. Stir until fairly thick-to keep the honey from settling to the bottom. Spoon into molds.

This soap has a pleasant honey smell and looks like maple sugar candy.

French Clay Cosmetic Soap

Ingredients

bullet2 tablespoons (20 g) French Clay
Instructions
Melt together the 12 ounces of basic soap and 9 ounces of water. Stir in the clay very well. Pour into molds.

French Clay is a cosmetic clay that removes oils and impurities from the skin. Great if you have oily skin. If your skin is dry to normal this may be too drying. You can get this clay at soap supply companies on-line or at health-food stores. It also comes in a red color, but I prefer the grey/beige.

 

Chamomile Oatmeal Soap

Ingredients

bullet2 cups grated soap
bullet1/4 cup palm oil
bullet1/2 cup water
bullet1 tablespoon ground dired camomile
bullet1 tablespoon ground toasted oatmeal
bullet10 drops clary sage oil
Instructions
Melt together the soap, palm oil, and water. After these are melted, add the remaining ingredients. If you would like a stronger floral scent, try adding few drops of ylang ylang essential oil. Once the scents and additives are mixed in, pour the soap into your molds.

Oatmeal is a good skin cleanser. The addition of camomile makes it gentle enough for use on the face.

Vitamin E Soap

Ingredients

bullet1/4 cup aloe vera gel (100% only)
bullet1 ounce vitamin E oil
bullet1 drop of green soap coloring (optional)
Instructions
Start with your regular 12 ounces of shredded basic soap. The aloe vera will take the place of some of your regular 9 ounces of water. Put your 1/4 cup aloe vera gel in with water to measure a total of 9 ounces. Stir this mixture into the grated soap in a pan. Heat and stir until melted. Add the vitamin E oil and coloring, stir well, and pour into molds.

Vitamin E is good for softening skin. You can also make this without the aloe vera. Just increase the vitamin E to 2 ounces and use the full 9 ounces of water.

Orange Blossom Pomander Bars

Ingredients

bullet1 1/2 (3g)ground cinnamon
bullet1 teaspoon (2g) ground ginger
bullet3 drops cinnamon fragrance
bullet2 tablespoons (14g) ground orange or lemon peel
Instructions
Melt the 12 ounces of shredded basic soap with 9 ounces water. Add the cinnamon, peels, ginger, and stir well. Add the fragrance, stir again and pour into molds.

This soap makes a great Christmas gift as it has a traditional holiday scent.
