Frisland
Also called Frischlant, Friesland, Freezeland, Frislandia, or Fixland. It appeared on virtually all of the maps of the North Atlantic from the 1560's through the 1660's. It originally referred to Iceland, but after the Zeno Brother's map placed it as an entirely separate island south of Iceland, it appeared that way on maps for the next 100 years. The Frisland of the Zeno Brothers actually refers to the Faroe Islands, which are east of Iceland. Christopher Columbus visited Iceland in 1477, and reported that Ultima Thule was where Ptolemy had said it was, and that the natives called it "Frislanda." Additional picture: Mercator map of 1595
