Cherubim

Cherubim figures atop of the Ark of the Covenant
| Description |
Cherubim is the plural of cherub. They are
winged beings, sometimes portrayed as a child, or a child's head.
Descriptions from the Scripture differ- describing them as in the shapes
of men, eagles, oxen, lions or a combination of them. There are two
gold cherubs on the cover of the Ark of the Covenant. The
cherubim of heraldry and art are different that those described in the
Scriptures.

Josephus,
in his description of the Ark of the Covenant- "Upon its
cover were two images, which the Hebrews call Cherubims; they are
flying creatures, but their form is not like that of any of
the creatures which men have seen, though Moses said he had seen
such beings near the throne of God."
