Cherubim

Cherubim figures atop of the Ark of the Covenant

Description Cherubim is the plural of cherub.  They are winged beings, sometimes portrayed as a child, or a child's head.  Descriptions from the Scripture differ- describing them as in the shapes of men, eagles, oxen, lions or a combination of them.  There are two gold cherubs on the cover of the Ark of the Covenant.   The cherubim of heraldry and art are different that those described in the Scriptures.

Features Serves God, as a throne bearer or attendant.

Described By:  Josephus, in his description of the Ark of the Covenant- "Upon its cover were two images, which the Hebrews call Cherubims; they are flying creatures, but their form is not like that of any of the creatures which men have seen, though Moses said he had seen such beings near the throne of God."
