Gorgons

| Description |
Gorgons
have different descriptions, but all are unusually hideous. In Greek
myth, gorgon were women who had serpents instead of hair.
Another version was a specific creature called a Catoblepas.

| Features |
Medusa was
a gorgon, and her face was so hideous that anyone who saw it was instantly
turned to stone.
She had once been a beautiful maiden who had been very
proud of her hair, but she dared to compare her beauty to that of the god
Minerva. Angered by this, Minerva
turned her into a gorgon, and changed her hair into writhing snakes.
Medusa became cruel, and terrorized the area, turning men and animals into
stone. Perseus was able to sneak up while she was asleep, and using
his shield as a mirror to avoid a direct look at her, cut off her head.
